Take your dog back to the vet. If you dog is exhibiting distress, you are not qualified to treat that. Your dog may require IV fluids, as well as, blood work to screen for proper organ function, not to mention medicine. I understand that times are tight, but this is really the best thing you can do for your dog.
This could be a lot of different problems from allergies to various infections. Like people said, going to see a vet is the best advice. Without knowing the breed, age, diet, etc it is very hard to tell from a distance, and even then a medical exam would be warranted. How long have you had it? Did you get it from a breeder?

Don't wait even if it could be benign as it could just as easily be serious (and even if it is just severe allergies, then the dog is miserable).
make sure to keep dog clean, his or her skin sounds very dry . i would soak him in some type of skin oil. such as peanut oil, and keep it from getting to hot. shea butter also works good. good luck A.J.
1 sick

2 ticks

3GO SEE A VET!!!!
Your dog is sick and needs to see a vet.
Get it to the vet!
Has the vet checked for heartworms?
i would just take him to the vets and let them sort it out from there
