I just adopted a female pomeranian, feed her twice a day dry puppy food, her coat is growing normal no signs of hair loss anywhere else on her body, other than the tips of her ears. Really worried, have already taken her to the vet but was told to change diet, but has yet to work!! She weighs a mere 5 pounds!!!! Please if anyone has any HELPFUL suggestions, other that consult a second vet please answer!!!!11 month old pomeranian loss of hair on ears and not gaining any weight?
A pom breeder will tell you that it's normal. It's called the ';Teenage Ugly's'; Your dog will start to lose hair in other places as time goes on. But it WILL grow back. Don't worry.
Check your local library for a book on raising pomeranians.
It should answer any other questions about how to care for your new family member.11 month old pomeranian loss of hair on ears and not gaining any weight?
Could be mites but hair loss there is a sign of irritation. I suggest you find another vet going forward since the one gave you horrible info. Buy some vitamin e oil in bottle and with a warm wet cloth, wipe the ears very well and apply vitamin e oil. the oil is great for skin issues and great for hair loss.By the way, dry food is the number one issue for allergies and dry skin in dogs and cats. Feed the puppy wet food as well , in fact feed more wet food and see if the problem clears up. Any hair loss over a month should be reported to your vet.
iono.. you can try to change the food. Food such as innova, evo or wellness are really good for your puppy. My puppy eats it and her fur is super soft. It also helped her fur grow out a little. My dogs a pomeranian mix their so cuteeee. I hope she gets better. If you give her like walmart dog food it just helps her get fat but she wont be good for her. If she eats a high quality dog food brand it stays in her body longer. Low quality dog food usually makes them poop right after they eat. But high quality stays in their stomach longer.
If she's eating twice a day, not gaining any weight, and is losing fur... then I'm sorry, but the ';Helpful'; suggestion here is what you don't want to hear. You need a second vet opinion. Clearly there's an issue here.
What's the food? What's the protein content? Grains? I would suggest 20%+ protein content; for example Wellness Super5Mix for puppies. It's pricier, but Poms don't eat a whole lot anyway; it contains no grains, which is very good, with a decent protein, and named meat ingredients for the first four on the list.
ETA: You know, I totally forgot about the ';uglies'; - seems a bit late in age for those, I honestly don't remember my Pom losing any fur, just getting a bit scraggly... anyhoo, that might be it, but I would really suggest taking her to another vet, JUST in case.
A Pomeranian will go though want is know as '; the puppy uglies';. I have a pom that only weights 5.2lbs. It takes a while for the fur to grow in, plus your dog could be shedding. There is a good chance that your dog is just stressed, give her a little more time. I'm sure her fur will grow back in!
i think the best solution as was suggested is to go straight to your vet guy before its too late. all the best
Loss of hair and weight loss could be a thyroid issue. Ask your vet about the possibility and get some blood tests if necessary. Good luck.
